377 Illegal Buildings on Karang Riverbank to Be Demolished

As many as 377 illegal buildings on the bank of Karang River, Pluit Urban Village, Penjaringan Sub-District, North Jakarta, will be demolished this end of month for the construction of inspection road. Not only hindering the inspection road construction works, those buildings are also troubling the project implementer in building retaining wall (turap) and embankment.

Because of that, Jalan Pluit Karang Elok, Jalan Pluit Karang Timur, and Jalan Pluit Karang Indah are always inundated during rainy season and tidal flood. That is why the construction of inspection road is needed, which also expected to reduce the density of traffic in that area.

Head of Penjaringan Sub-District, Rusdiyanto, said the 377 illegal buildings are spread in RW 12, 14, 15, and 17. Starting Tuesday (9/16), his party will socialize the demolition plan to the building owners. Afterwards, warning letter and demolition warrant will be issued in phases.

“The operation could run in two more weeks at the latest. But, we do not programming relocation or compensation. Those 377 buildings are illegal buildings. The owners have lived and stayed in that location for years,” he stated, Saturday (9/13).

According to Rusdiyanto, the 377 illegal buildings consist of 143 houses, 129 rented houses, 88 business places, 6 mushollas (small mosques), 6 used goods stalls, 4 pump houses, 4 security posts, and 1 school.
